Study of Steam-Induced Convection in a Rotating Vertical Flow Channel

The phenomenon of steam–water direct contact condensation has significance in a wide range industrial applications. Superheated steam was injected upward into cylindrical water vessel. Visual observations were conducted on turbulent jet to determine the dimensionless length compared nozzle exit diameter and maximum swelling ratio as function mass flux at exit, with gas ranging from 295–883 kg/m2s. Reynolds number based jet’s expansion ranged 41,000 93,000. Farther above region, evolved single-phase heated plume, surrounded by ambient water. Mean axial central velocity profiles determined against kg/m2s observe exponential drop mean vertical distance increased. radial distribution within spread be self-similar, profile followed Gaussian function, after proper scaling velocity.
